Theme park drinks can be pricey — and water is no exception.
Still, it’s one thing you can’t skip, especially under Japan’s hot summer sun.

If you’ve ever wondered whether you can bring your own water or refill inside Universal Studios Japan, you’re not alone.
This quick guide covers everything you need to know — from what’s allowed to what’s not — so you can stay cool, save money, and enjoy your day to the fullest.

Can you bring your own water bottle into USJ?

Yes — you can bring your own water bottle into the park.

According to the official Universal Studios Japan website, water bottles — such as thermoses or disposable plastic bottles — are allowed to be brought into the park.

The site notes that guests should generally refrain from bringing outside food or drinks, but contained water is an exception.

You will be asked to remove drink containers (such as water bottles and disposable plastic bottles) so they can check them at the entrance.

Beverages in glass bottles, cans, and containers that cannot be completely closed, such as coffee cups with/without lids and drink cartons, are not allowed.

Are there water refill stations inside the park?

Yes — there are several ways to refill your water bottle once you’re inside Universal Studios Japan.

While the official website doesn’t list every fountain location, free water refill stations are available near restrooms and rest areas throughout the park. You’ll also find them around family areas and near popular attractions.

💡 Good to know:
Some long-queue attractions even have refill taps or drinking fountains along the waiting lines, so you can stay hydrated while waiting in the sun.

Some visitors also mentioned that there’s a water refill spot at Kinopio’s Café (Toad’s Café) inside Super Nintendo World, where you can get a quick drink before or after eating.

If you’re not sure, you can always ask a staff member by saying:

1.Easiest

“Sumimasen, omizu arimasu ka?”
(Excuse me, do you have water?)

2.Polite / soft request form (a bit more advanced)

“Sumimasen, omizu itadakemasu ka?”
(Excuse me, may I have some water, please?)

Can you bring hot water or water for baby formula?

Yes — Universal Studios Japan is very family-friendly, and parents can bring hot water or water for preparing baby formula.

The official website asks visitors not to bring general food or drinks into the park, but baby food and formula are an exception.

Inside the park, you’ll find Family Services centers equipped with hot water dispensers, microwaves, changing areas, and nursing spaces — perfect for preparing bottles or warming up baby food.

There are three Family Services locations:
1. Guest Services
2. Universal Wonderland
3. San Francisco Area (next to South First Aid — note: microwaves are not available at this one)

What items are not allowed?

While Universal Studios Japan is quite flexible when it comes to bringing small items like water bottles, there are a few things that are strictly prohibited for safety and crowd control reasons.

According to the official USJ guidelines, here’s what you cannot bring into the park:

  • Large food containers or boxed meals
→ Outside food is not allowed unless you use the free picnic area near the parking lot before entering the park.
  • Alcoholic beverages
→ Any drinks containing alcohol will be confiscated at the entrance.
  • Glass bottles or jars
→ These are considered unsafe and are not permitted anywhere in the park.
  • Large coolers, rolling carts, or picnic sets
→ Only small bags or backpacks are allowed.
  • Selfie sticks and tripods
→ Some rides and shows ban these for safety reasons. Check staff instructions before use.
Only selfie sticks that fit entirely in the palm of your hand, can be used with one hand, and do not extend above your head are allowed (extendable types prohibited).
  • Pets (except service animals)
→ Service animals are welcome, but pets must stay outside the park.

Sealed water bottles or thermoses are allowed — just make sure they’re non-alcoholic and easy to inspect at security.
